Meeting with the Convener of Edinburgh City Transport Committee

The DDS group have for some time now been campaigning for better access to Lothian Buses for disabled people. On Tuesday 23rd August we had a very well attended meeting on this issue. The meeting was attended by Cllr Burns who is the Edinburgh City Council Transport Convener, and Bill Campbell an Operations Director with Lothian Buses.

At this meeting the DDS presented the details around disabled people being discriminated against whilst trying to use Lothian Buses. Mr Burn and Mr Campbell have promised to look into all the issues we raised and have committed themselves to continue to work with the DDS group to improve public transport for disabled people. The DDS group are encouraged by this and see consultation with all the players around transport as being extremely important and the way ahead.

At the meeting Mr Campbell handed us a guide that refers to bus drivers conduct with passengers, we have been given permission to copy the guide and it is with pleasure that I enclose it with this letter. (With added pictures)

I hope you find the document useful and I would urge you all to refer to it if you use public transport especially Lothian Buses. Please be advised that every bus driver in the UK is given a copy of this document and it is used to as a rule book by them and the Companies that employ them.
